Law of the Mind

The Law of the Mind – #3 Law under the 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing

SAVAS Law of Mind

“It’s better to be first in the mind than to be first in the market”. ‘Being first in mind is everything. Being first in the market is only important in that it allows you to get into the mind first’.

The best example for us here would be from the Indian e-retailer business. Indiaplaza though being the first online shopping site in India was not known to many in the market, Flipkart made itself heard by their massive ad campaigns and therefore most of the people believe that Flipkart was the first e-retailer in India. Now it is Amazon in India and see the magic of ‘The Law of the Mind’, most people are more comfortable with Amazon as a brand than Flipkart. The only reason being that Amazon as a brand got registered in people’s mind much before Flipkart even came into existence.

With Internet by our side and a large audience that is hooked to it, getting heard is not at all a difficult thing nowadays. There is a change in how things worked before and how things work now. Earlier people used to see and consume advertisements, now most of them do not believe in them knowing that the character in the ad is a paid artist just saying what he/she is asked to say. Instead, they would want to consume content and decide for themselves as to who is who and why are they the best if at all they are. Ads are a supporting component and we can never stop using it. Ads are the first to get ones attention and do the most needed registration of the message in one’s mind and content make sure it stays there.

A recently posted article on the online magazine ‘The Drum’ suggested that every three in four British companies are investing more on their content marketing activities. This trend is just not limited to Great Britain alone. According to the ‘Content Marketing Association’ 50% of the US B2B companies are increasing their spend on Content Marketing Activities. The phenomenon is global as the trend is fast catching up across all nations. People now believe more in what others have to say rather than listening to the company themselves. Instead of an ad, one would want to make a decision looking at what knowledge the company has got in their industry compared to the competition in order to evaluate their capability.

Social Media has become an accelerator in Content Marketing Practices. If you publish something that people will like, there is a greater possibility that your content gets shared and liked by millions without you doing anything at all. The more people talk about you, the more possibilities of people coming to your site. The more people coming to your site, the more possibilities of generating qualified leads. The more Qualified leads you get, the more revenue your company can generate.
